The collection of the MANI Museum is unique, because it has been formed from inside the Moscow Conceptual School since 1988.
The collection was started by Nikolay Panitkov, one of the founders of "Collective Actions" group. He also served as its' chief custodian. All the main exponents of Moscow Conceptualist School actively contributed works to the collection. By the middle 1990s the collection had an inventory of more than 150 pieces by different artists. All works were stored in Nikolay Panitkov's country house. At the same time, several important exhibitions welcomed works from the MANI collection. At the beginning of the 2000s the artworks' state of conservation appeared troublesome. There were no adequate conditions to store the collection. Since 2004 E.K. Artbureau took responsibility for administering the collection.
